Accounting Outsourcing Benefits: The What & The Why

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work in Client Accounting Services (CAS)

4 Simple Steps for Better Cash Flow Planning

Straight Talk

Translation technical jargon into a plain English “text.”
We are a start-up company with three employees, including myself. I’m looking for assistance with some accounting functions. What services can you provide?
For businesses like yours, we can maintain general ledgers (or books), prepare financial statements, pay vendor bills, provide cash flow planning and management, prepare bank reconciliations, manage payroll and payroll tax reporting, and maintain depreciation schedules.
That all sounds helpful right now. What about higher level accounting support as I need it?
Absolutely! We are able to handle applications and filings for payroll taxes (federal, state, and local), sales and consumer use taxes (state and local tax), and various city and county business licenses. Plus, we can create budgets and reports highlighting operational impacts of financial decisions.
I like the breadth of the spectrum of services you offer. I’d like to meet to discuss some of these options in more detail.
We are a start-up company and have been manually keeping our books. We believe it is time to move to a software solution, but we don’t really know where to start. Can you guide us through the accounting software selection and set-up process?
Yes. It is great to hear that your business is growing, and we would love to help set you up for further success with an accounting software solution. There are a few things you may want to keep in mind before you dive in.
That’s a relief. Can you provide pointers so that I can start? Maybe then we can meet to review the set-up.
We recommend starting with a solid foundation, which begins with the chart of accounts. Most packages produce some standard charts, but we recommend requesting assistance before you begin entering transactions. If you are migrating a significant number of transactions from a previous system, then there are some tricks available to import those items. Let’s get together to review your data to create a game plan.
Great! I’m available later this week.
We are a growing company and are reaching the point where we need the oversight of a CFO or controller. Can CRI assist us in the recruitment of the right employee?
Before we take that route, there may be other options for you to consider. We offer co-sourcing and outsourcing for some or all of your accounting functions.
Can you please explain and describe its benefits?
Absolutely. A team of CRI professionals can partner with you to provide a variety of accounting services ranging from simple data entry to a full virtual CFO (and anywhere in between). The value to you is that you no longer have to be concerned about the costs of turnover, employee benefits, and training. Additionally, you have access to the depth of up-to-date knowledge that is available from a large CPA firm.
That sounds like an in interesting option that we’d like to evaluate. Can we set-up a meeting to discuss this idea further?

Solutions Simplified

Down-to-earth descriptions of our services.
Accounts Payable

Accounts payable (AP) is one of the foundational functions of accounting and informs other functions in the process. It is important to correctly classify vendor invoices to ensure that complete and accurate information is supplied to other functions (e.g. budget creation, internal management reporting, financial statement preparation). Another aspect of using a consistent AP process and system is the production of timely vendor payments. Information from the system can help management make informed decisions related to the timing of cash flow. An organized AP process can help a business run smoothly and maintain vendor relationships.

Accounts Receivable and Billing

Revenue and cash collection are key to a business’ success. Healthy companies bill and manage receivables on time. CRI can consult with your accounting staff, as well as co-source or outsource billing and receivables for your business.

Bookkeeping is known by many names, such as maintaining the ledger, recording the entries, reconciling the books, and more. Bookkeeping consists of many important functions: accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliation of accounts and journal entries, and others. CRI’s professionals can assist you in both maintaining and understanding your financial records so that you’re always on the right page.

Financial Statement Preparation

Financial statement preparation is our most basic level of service. Our team does not perform any verification of the financial data, and we pull the numbers together in your chosen format. The financial statements will be marked to indicate that “no assurance is provided.” While you may share the financials with third-parties, the financial statement preparation service is really aimed at meeting management’s internal needs.

Forms 1099

Forms 1099 are informational returns required by the IRS relative to vendor payments.  Various types of Forms 1099 exist, but the most common type is the 1099-MISC. CRI’s professionals can help determine which forms and vendors should be reported – as well as help prepare the forms.

Form I-9/E-Verify

Form I-9 verifies eligibility to legally work. It is required:

E-Verify is an internet-based system of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services allowing businesses to determine or verify an employee’s eligibility to work in the U.S. CRI’s accounting outsourcing professionals can assist you with your Form I-9 and E-Verify questions and concerns.

Payroll and Payroll Tax

Two critical areas in the complex world of payroll are regulation compliance and delivery to your employees. CRI can help your business prepare payroll checks and comply with tax regulations. We can also take your provided information and prepare federal, state, and local tax returns.
