CRI Awards Scholarships to Tennessee Students
NASHVILLE, TN – June 1, 2009 –
The Nashville office of public accounting firm Carr, Riggs & Ingram, LLC, has
announced Tien Nguyen and Heather Witty of Middle Tennessee State University as
recipients of the CRI Accounting Scholarships for 2009-10.
The CRI Scholarship initiative is in its’ first year
and is awarded to two MTSU students—a Masters candidate and rising senior—who
exhibit distinguished academic performance, extracurricular activities and
leadership potential. Recipients were selected from applicants by a MTSU
scholarship selection committee headed by Dr. Charles Kile, Jr.
CRI will award two scholarships to students at each of four
Tennessee
universities in 2009-10 as part of an initiative to support growth and
development of future accounting professionals at the college level. In addition
to Middle Tennessee State University, CRI will present scholarships to students
at Belmont University, David Lipscomb University, and Tennessee Tech University.
Nguyen, who is pursuing his M.S. degree
in Accounting at Middle Tennessee, earned his B.B.A. in Accounting in 2007.
Fluent in Vietnamese and Spanish, Nguyen is a past winner of the Accounting
Merit Scholarship and an active member in Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary
organization for accounting students and professionals. While pursuing his
degree, he tutors MTSU students in accounting, auditing, and tax and has work
experience in financial reporting with the Tennessee Department of the Treasury.
Witty holds a 3.97 GPA as she pursues her
B.B.A. in Accounting at MTSU. She is a candidate for membership in Beta
Alpha Psi, a current member of the Beta Club, and has been a Dean’s List honoree
every semester since enrolling at MTSU. She has work experience with both
a major regional bank and as an office manager for a medical practice.
